FRP Bridge Work

Worked on a few items on the C57 FRP bridge. The area received ~12" of rain two days ago. The approach was muddy and there were several low spots with water, but the ground was firm. Notes: - A tree was resting on a handrail on the down station, up stream side. There was no damage to the handrail. Cut the crown off the tree. Left the main trunk, maybe 6" diameter. The trunk rose off the handrail when the crown was removed. - The bank has continued to slump, and the end sill was about 3" below the bridge stringers. Several fresh cracks have opened up and it looks like flowing water got within 3-4 feet of the up station end. The screw piles were angled a little more away from the stream and a ~3/4" gap has opened up on the pile beam and the bridge stringers. - Removed a deteriorated deck board, replaced with a full thickness board from the end of the bridge. - Returned the custom-cut deck board to the end, leaving a three-deck board opening. Installed (3) 2x12x71-3/4" treated boards to fill the hole. - Reinstalled the cross brace. - Installed (2) blocks on the outside of the beam on top of the piles. These are to reduce chance of the bridge getting pushed off the piles. Stringer damage measurements: There are (5) stringers. The outside stringers have no apparent damage. The inside three stringers had deck boards bolted to them and had their top flanges pulled off. Measurements of when damage starts and ends: - Up stream stringer: 72", 96" - Middle stringer: 62", 96" - Down stream stringer: 56", 97"
