A very good wind proof raincoat is essential when hiking the Heysen. Don’t skimp on it!

Second day of hiking with Annette and a daypack! Once again we started hiking with an icy cold wind and the threat of rain. We did end up getting a little shower, but the raincoats were mostly on as a windbreak, very effectively. I must say I love my Arcteryx Zeta AR, it hasn’t let me down yet.
Anyway, back to the day’s hike. More hills and ridge lines which were exposed but have amazing views. I couldn’t help but just be happy to be there. It’s so invigorating- that sounds corny but it’s true.
Once we came down from the hills there was the road walking, but the lack of wind combined with dry roads made it actually ok! We just got to talking about deep philosophical questions and reflecting on certain topics- great conversation with my lovely friend.
We finally got to the start of the Bundaleer Channels I’ve been hearing so much about. I must read more about them once I get off trail. The walking was quick and pleasant and we made our way through more paddocks, along more fence lines and slowly but surely made our way back into Spalding and stopped right outside the pub. This was the end of Annette’s hiking for now and I will carry on northwards.
