Day 2 Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park & Northern Mt Crawford Forest

It was a chilly night, but I slept okay. I used my bivvy sack as an extra blanket over me as well as my sleeping bag and liner. One guys watch said the temperature was about 2 degrees centigrade at the lowest. Leaving the tents we saw the mountain was surrounded by fog, so no views for us today. People packed up quickly and after breakfast we were off at 8:30. We followed a steeper but shorter route down the mountain. There were plenty of trees and bushes to slow our desent. I got the giggles more than once feeling that I didn't know I was signing up for this! It was crazy steep and dense vegetation to push through. Near the bottom everyone except myself was keen to get back to the cars via the shortest route possible. I was disappointed by the truncated trip and missing seeing Horse Head Rock as planned. It was a great first overnight hike and will help me to refine my gear. I was pretty happy with my gear, but need to get the weight down a little for when I will carry 5 days of food to Kangaroo Island in August.
