11 followers for my ride to the Watermans Arms in Eton. Our first stop at the White House at Stockley Park was a bit of a long winded debacle - one member of staff behind the bar, lots of customers, run out of mugs and cups, then run out of coffee - well it is a pub not a cafe. Five dropped out post coffee while I led the remainder the long way to Eton.
While chatting over lunch, Jaquie let slip her terrible secret - wait for it - it's outrageous - are you sitting down? Are you ready? Brace yourselves! The secret is that in twenty years of regular cycling with the Loiterers (yes twenty years spanning two centuries) she has NEVER EVER led a ride !
After we had picked ourselves up from the floor, we insisted that she make a start by guiding us back to Uxbridge there and then. Despite much screaming and swooning, Jaquie at last agreed to do a joint lead with Gerry (whose lead dodging for some seven years paled into insignificance).
We couldn't really see what their problem had been as they quite efficiently guided us to Langley Park for afternoon tea and then with a tiny hint or two from Lawrie back to Uxbridge.
A great day out with fellow Loiterers
