B38 has settled approximately 14-16 on the south approach, and about 12" on the north side. This bridge has been repaired in the past due to bank deterioration, the matter is only getting worse with time. Due to the fragile nature of the nearly vertical bank on the north side, no action was taken to fortify the existing 6x6 sill beam. It does not appear that the bridge has settled much on that end in the recent past, so it was left alone,
The south approach was missing the sill beam altogether with the bridge resting on two vertical 4x4s that support the guard railing. The extension ramp (also a stopgap repair from the past) was also bearing its weight on the same 4x4s, and was splitting the support lumber under the vertical load stress.
