Hiked with a rucksack to Hidden Valley trailhead. Rucksack was 30-35 lbs. This is my first time hiking that far with that much weight. This was a rigorous, refreshing hike in the cold morning air.
A few people on the trail asked me about camping in Hidden Valley, but I had to explain that I'm just training right now. I'll get up there in the summer and camp.
My shovel pack unbuttoned and fell down the slope 15-20 feet and landed by a tree. I was able to climb down and get it, but I wish I would have had a rope I could have anchored and held onto on the way down. The slope is covered in lots of loose rock, so be very careful hiking along this trail, you don't want to slip off the beaten path and fall!
