Wandering Around Rampart Ridge

A little snow on the trail up to Lake Lillian. The trail down to Laura Lake was snow covered. A little snow around Lake Lillian and the lake was still half frozen over. The steep trail up to the ridge was snow free. Once on the ridge there were pockets of snow along the trails but one could follow the tracks of others. There was a reasonable amount of snow on the way down from Rampart Ridge to Rampart Lakes. I lost the trail (few previous tracks or they disappeared in the snow melt) and wasn't sure that I really wanted to hike down to the lakes and back up again as I was out for a short afternoon hike. I saw track from someone glissading down so I though that I'd head back up that trail although I thought that the trail up was the next gully over. As a result I ended up wandering around this one ridge trying to find a way down to where I wanted to be. Most of the ridge had fairly steep drop offs so I headed back and scrambled down the one side then back over to the overlook of Rampart Lakes. Not a big deal, just some re-adjustments to the plan. Great sunny day with good views. A few other people were out but not too many. The great thing about Rampart Ridge is that there are trails everywhere. The bad thing about Rampart Ridge is that there are trails everywhere :) I love it up there and I'll be back. I've been there a number of times in the past, usually in the fall. This was my first trip in the "spring"/"early summer".
