Beol-bong(Namhan Mountain Fortress) Climbing from Seomal in Sangsangok-dong, Hanam.

We took the mountain ridge for Beol-bong on a eastern side of Namhan-san fortress as we had climbed up on the Gark-san ridge, Geumam-san ridge and Gogol Valley via Seongmun temple. It was the most gradual slopes toward the peak and it took 2 hours by walk from the entrance of Seommal. Just after rainfall, it was hot and sticky in high humidity but, as we progressed, we felt cool in a deep valley paralled with a creek and shaded with trees. This valley was regarded as Gajiul, an old name, and Beobeun-sa temple was on it. Just before the Beol peak, we found a guide post directing both the peak, the valley we took and the pass toward Gaek-san ridge. Considering the trail condition, I thought this route had been a main supply route for Qing's force attacking the fortress with their artilleries. They could pull their supply with cart driven by cows, ponies and other animals 500 years before. The other routes as like Gogol could be accessible to the end of valley but no way to pull up supplies due to staff and tough ridges. After reaching the peak, we took continuously trail for North Gate and for the rotary in the castle for a supper and a bowl of makeolli.
