A baking hot day started from the church car park in Kemsing. The gentle walk through the park didn't prepare us for the slog up onto North Downs way although we did get a few shaded breaks on the way up. There had been a welcome upgrade to the track furniture with kissing gates replacing stiles in a number of places. What hadn't improved were the steps climbing out of Knatts Valley nor had they diminished! but then I suppose they were offset by the 118 steps down White Hill to Shoreham. The hardest slog was into and up from Austin Spring after Romney Street as most of it was in full sun apart from the enclosed pathway across what used to be the Upper Austin Lodge Golf Course.. We had our lunch stop watching village cricket on the path between Shoreham and Otford arriving in Otford eagerly anticipating a pint at The Woodman before heading back to Kemsing. GPS stats showed: 11.2 miles in 4 hrs at 2.8 mvg avg with 1243 feet ascent
