As I walked two days in one yesterday I set off today with the aim of making it to Wilpena Pound today and then having an extra zero day tomorrow. Due to existing bookings and my daughter due to meet me in Quorn I can’t actually get ahead by a day. If I was too tired my plan B was to walk to Wilcolo campsite and stay there and walk into Wilpena in the morning. I set off from Yanyanna knowing that I had a hill to climb with a pretty steep descent on the other side. The descent was slightly scary as I wasn’t expecting it but finally I was down and following a pretty good trail until I came across my first rock scrambling creek walk but luckily it only went for a short distance. Unfortunately it wasn’t the only creek walking I would do today. I finally started following a fire track which led me to Wilcolo. I stopped for a break and even though I felt pretty tired the thought that I might be able to have a bed for the night spurred me on the final 7km to the Wilpena resort. Arriving at 4.30pm meant that I managed to get a room and have time to pop into the shop and grab a latte. Unfortunately the room I was in was already booked for the next day so tomorrow I will have to check out of one room and then check into my safari tent a few hours later.
