According to last year, this was to be our "annual" 4th of July wineberry picking hike! Yes...plenty of wineberries, but we were 2-3 weeks too early this year!
Making a guess on the number of vehicles in the parking area before & after we hike, D won on both counts today...4 & 10 respectively!
On this 90 degree+ F. day (at least in the valley!) we put our feet in the creek to cool off, while munching on apples and sugar-coated peanuts!
Found an old cemetery for the first time, just off the beaten path.
It's always a treat to stop for lunch at the Bent Mountain Bistro on our way back to Roanoke, but, alas, they were closed today.
Left our berry picking containers in the car in anticipation of our return in a few weeks! :) Can't wait, because this trek is one of our favorites!
Catch you later.... Storyhiker
P.S. I've included a few pictures from this hike that were taken on 7 October 2017, as well.
