Heysen Trail - Wilpena Pound to Yanyanna Hut

After a well earned rest day, in which it was cold and rainy on and off all day, we set off again, ever northward bound. I was stating to really count down the days left on trail….only three days to go! Could I really do this? Our rest day consisted of bacon and eggs, hot drinks, a lie in, washing clothes and recharging devices, being well cared for by Mum and Dad with access to their heated caravan. True luxury! We even went up to the visitors centre and had a coffee. On the public holiday Monday we set off for Yanyanna Hut. We had a lovely morning of walking, running into four section hikers which is always nice. They did give us the feedback of trying to avoid Yanyanna as it was overrun with 4WD-ers, but we hoped this was just die to the long weekend and they would all be heading back home for work the next day. We did not want to tack the additional 8 on to the day to make it to Middlsight hut. As it turned out it was a good decision as my knee started to play up in the afternoon, with a sharp pain initially when going downhill then progressing to each footstep. At the same time, Tilly’s taped hot spot progressed into a blister so we had to take care of that too. These issues did slow us down a bit but we were determined to make camp nonetheless. The last few km of the day is always hard, and so it was today. We were so ready to get to camp and get our shoes off and feet up. Some elevation gain and of course some more creek walking in the afternoon slowed us a bit but as per the last few days our views were worth it.
