As this was our longest day on trail, we set the alarm for 0530 so we could be on the trail at 0700. All went pretty much to plan. It rained a bit in the night so unfortunately we had to pack down and carry wet tents, but we can’t begrudge the area this much needed rain.
This whole day of walking was simply beautiful- even though we found ourselves once again in a creek for a while. The pine forest section was so beautiful, and before too long we found ourselves walking on a trail with the Elder Range on our left and Red Range on our right. The peaks were covered in cloud which gave a mystical feel to the scenery. It was cold so we started all layered up but it didn’t take long to warm up and start peeling off some layers.
The scenery just kept getting better and better as we walked throughout the day. Heading up to Bridle Gap was the challenge of the day, but was so enjoyable really; we just took it steady and drank in the spectacular views.
Actually I think the real challenge was the several km of flat track once inside the Pound! It’s so hard on your feet and I’m the last few km we started dreaming about the hot shower and fresh food that were awaiting us. We decided to get our headphones out snd listen to our own entertainment to get us to the end of the day - the Visitors Centre where we were met by Mum and Dad our cheer squad/trail support crew.
So even though we walked 29.4km it was an enjoyable day
