Today Bec and I continued with our Plan C hike. Longer than yesterday and I could really feel my knee joints from the day before. I forgot to start my ramblr tracking until we were 500m away from Eagle Waterhole.
We woke at about 7am with light levels increasing inside the hut with it's open doorway. Grey Shrikr Thrush birds were our alarm clocks. We shared the hut with 2 of the year 10 school kids. I asked one if I snored and he said no. Bec also said no. Not sure that I believe Robert as he says I do snore! The night was cool, but not cold and I was toasty warm in my liner, bivvy sack and sleeping bag. Although when I first got in bed my upper back tighs and bum cheeks felt icy! My core was warm but that flab was burning cold! When I woke in the middle of the night they had warmed up. I guess that zone is a low priority for my body to keep warm.
We had breakfast and were ready to leave around 9 am. The school kids left after us but overtook took quickly. Sweet little Blue Wrens entertained us at breakfast. It was nice not to packup a tent, but the hut gives no privacy to change, so it's a difficult wiggle inside your sleeping bag to do it. Still I found that easier sitting on the edge of my bed platform rather than doing it in my tent.
The hike to Tapannapa was long with a steep section of tall stairs to decend. We saw the spectacular Deep Creek fall and crossed the creek. There was too much water to avoid filling my shoes. The cold water soaked my socks, but my feet warmed up quickly, despite being soggy. Bec's waterproof boots kept her dry! My mesh trail runners are great when deep creeks aren't involved.
We saw the ferry again today and even a beach in the distance. Lots of blue skies, but also clouds and rain. I don't mind hiking in the rain at all. It just makes stopping to rest undesirable.
We saw lots of Kangaroos even a tiny joey in a pouch.
Tomorrow we plan to get back to Trig via the Deek Creek Cove hike and a smaller part of the Heysen trail do we aren't completely covering the Heysen trail again.
After using nature as a toilet you realise just how much luxury long drops are! It's past hiker midnight now so I must sleep.
