I was a bit disappointed today because I started my hike then got a migraine 6km in.
I had to stop immediately, take my tablets, drink loads more water, and lie down. This meant there was no way I could reach the 25km total I was aiming for.
Then, as I lay there at the top of a cliff, watching the rain laden clouds scoot around the edge of Kangaroo Island, I was suddenly awestruck at how incredibly beautiful everything was. I don't think it was the drugs, I'd only taken asprin. How lucky was I? Nature was at it's most beautiful and majestic. Gently peaceful. The sweet, blossom scented air moved lazily across my skin carrying with it a mixture of subtle fragrances - grasses, sea, and distant rain. The sun warmed my face, the hills were a welcoming, deep green, and the sea was a rich tapestry of blues, greens and whites.
The best thing was that I didn't even get wet. The laden rain clouds travelled swiftly through 'Backstairs Passage' (unfortunate name but anyway), the channel between the mainland and Kangaroo Island.
It turned out to be a short, but soul nurturing hike. My migraine subsided after 20minutes so I popped up and headed back to the car. Luckily I'd caught the migraine in time and didn't have to lie there for hours.
The hike turned out to be good practice for walking along slightly rocky tracks and for testing my migraine first aid kit.
11ish Km total with 10 kg pack.
