Perhaps the hardest trail to run within 30~40 mins of drive from home. The views are just about mediocre compared to some other Jersey Highland destinations, but does make up with one of the steepest ascent in the area, which is even comparable to Mt. Beacon or Almost Perpendicular Trail in Harriman SP.
Meant to run twice as long, but played it safe before the COVID-19 booster shot. Or, should I simply admit that I ran out of time to put in 10k because I ran so slow? 😚🤫😚
It is such an underrated and underappreciated park. Beware though that the trailhead parking fills up quickly on weekends and is extremely noisy from I-287 traffic. Nevertheless, lots of songbirds congregate the park and make it a true urban oasis away from the interstate. Surprisingly, the forest is so serene once away from the interstate 🛣 traffic.
