Road Trip: 2021 Thanksgiving Weekend in Finger Lakes

November 24 (Wed) 1) HLC —> Miss Angie’s farewell 2) Star Bar and Grill (Liberty, NY) —> The North Brewery (till 20:00), Hopshire Farm and Brewery (till 18:00) and Salt Point Brewing (till 21:00) were all closed due to the delayed departure and relatively heavy traffic getting out of NJ. Took the local roads with no tolls to avoid Thanksgiving traffic on major interstate highways. Ended up compromising on food. 3) AirBnB: The Megan House ========== November 25 (Thurs) 1) TOPS (grocery shopping 🛒) 2) Cornell Lab of Ornithology & Sapsucker Woods 3) Edwards Lake Cliffs & Pocket Falls —> Closed; inaccessible 4) Emilie Jonas Falls Parking 5) Myers Park & Myers Point Lighthouse 6) Salt Point Natural Area —> Ran out of daylight 7) Thanksgiving Dinner —> 18.30 lbs of 🦃 🍽 🦃 marinated simply with salt, black pepper, soy sauce and olive oil, paired with quinoa, cranberry sauce, baked potatoes and sweet potatoes, roasted veggies and mushed potatoes. ========== November 26 (Fri) 1) Great Gully 2) Montezuma NWR - Visitor Center & Lodge Nature Store (10-15) 3) Wildlife Drive (8.31 | 258') 3a) Seneca Trail (0.95 mi | 21' | 1 hr) 3b) Photo Blind Trail (0.4 mi | 11' | 0.5 hrs) 3c) Oxbow Trail (0.88 mi | 28' | 1 hr) 4) (Montezuma NWR) Cayuga Lake Unit 5) Fall Street Brewing (4.8 | 3.72 | 9~22:30) 6) Women's Rights National Historical Park 7) It's a Wonderful Life Bridge 8) Ludovico Sculpture Trail (1.84 | 49' | 1 hr) 9) Muranda Cheese Co. (4.9 | 10-17) 10) Fleur De Lis Brew Works (4.8 | 3.64 | 15-19) 11) Dinner @ Sackett’s Table ========== November 27 (Sat) 1) Guy Baldassarre Marsh 2) Montezuma Audubon Center – Guided Hike - Fall Migratory Birds (Morning Session) 3) WITHDRAWN‼️ Montezuma Audubon Center – Guided Hike - Fall Migratory Birds (Afternoon Session) 4) Turtle Pond Trail (0.93 | 85' | < 1 hr) 5) Malone's Creekside Trail (Parking @ 43.0737, -76.74713 | 1.11 | 0' | 1 hr) —> Skipped due to the PEAK DEER HUNTING activities; the trailhead was over-flooded with hunters and their shotguns and pick-up trucks. 6) Morgan Road Viewing Platform —> As suggested by Chris, the volunteer, not to be confused with the head of Montezuma Audubon, Mr. Lajewski. —> Spent about 15-20 mins waiting for any large flocks of birds with no luck other than what appeared to be some common gulls and Canada geese. As I started the engine and put the gear in reverse came four what looked like sandhill cranes although uncharacteristically completely in white feathers. But they were flying with their necks straight out unlike great blue herons, which bend their necks in flight. To be further researched… 😅😚😅 7) Howland Island Wild Management Area (Parking @ 43.0783, -76.70393) —> Skipped due to the exact same reasons as #5. In fact, the familiar faces from the previous trailhead ended up following us. 😱 8) Marten's Tract Trail (2.44 | 42' | 2 hrs) —> The last birdwatching hike of the day… it was absolutely beautiful as the aforementioned volunteer Chris described… except we only managed to see several flocks of Canada geese. There were also mounds or piles of what appeared to be muskrats’ nests all over the inner marshes. The outer slow-moving river did not seem to have those nesting grounds perhaps they might quickly turn into mobile homes 🤣😂🤣. 9) Helmer's Marsh Trail (Out-and-Back) —> Skipped 10) Montezuma Heritage Park & Richmond Aqueduct Ruins (Parking (43.01132, -76.71021)) —> Skipped 11) Random overlook point (GPS: TBC) —> Strongly suggested by the above-referenced volunteer Chris at the Audubon Center who confirmed with me that the last sighting of sandhill cranes were from this location on Monday (x 10 of them). As we approached the 180-degreed wide-open viewpoint overlooking a large pond (a body of water source) in our car, the far-left corner of my left eye 👁 caught a ginormous swarm of water birds like varied ducks, geese, swans, gulls in flight preparing for landing on the water and peacefully and harmoniously co-existing!! It’s by far the largest flocks of any types of birds I have ever witnessed before my eyes! I simply could not believe what I was seeing!! Simply overwhelmed and dropped my jaw down to the water along with the birds! 🤣😂🤣 12) Izzo's White Barn Winery (5.0 | 10-17) —> Skipped 13) Quarry Ridge Winery (5.0 | 11-17) —> Skipped 14) Heart & Hands Wine Co. (4.8 | 12-17) 15) Aurora Brewing Co. (4.7 | 4.04 | 12-21) 16) Treleaven Wines (4.7 | 11-20) —> Skipped 17) Unexpected illness —> Changed into dry clothes immediately upon returning home, but suddenly after about an hour after I changed into the fresh dry clothes came one of the worse chills and shivering of my life… 😨->🥶->😱->🤒->🥵->😵‍💫->😵->🥴->🙄->🤔… to be closely monitored and most probably to go through the fourth COVID-19 test upon returning home tomorrow night or first thing Monday morning subject to availability. ========== November 28 (Sun) 1) Ithaca Bakery 2) Ithaca Farmers Market 3) Ithaca Children's Garden 4) Ithaca Falls Trail (0.2 mi | 20' | 0.5 hrs) 5) South Hill Town Recreation Way | Mulholland Wildflower Preserve | Wells Falls (3.12 mi | 752' | 3 hrs) —> Skipped 6) Hopshire Farm & Brewery (4.7 | 3.6 | 12-18) 7) Water Street Brewing (4.5 | 3.6 | 11-17) —> Skipped 8) Endless Brewing (4.9 | 3.68 | 11-24) —> Skipped 9) Secaucus Jct. 10) Home ========== Road Trip, 2021 Thanksgiving Weekend, New York, NY, Liberty, Star Bar and Grill, Finger Lakes, Cayuga Lake, AirBnB,
