Known for the nesting ground for the world’s largest reptile, leatherback turtles, I had to pay a visit here whether I get to see them or not. The beach offers beautiful fine coral white-colored sand and is popular amongst the surfers with its wicked geo-formation off-shore with a sudden drop-off, which creates fine waves.
Being the peak daylight, we didn’t get to see any leatherbacks nor their hatchlings, but I was happy to be on the nesting ground of the endangered species. And, a few hours of relaxing beach time ain't too bad even for a non-beach goer like myself.
With so much rip currents, I would not necessarily recommend this beach for the families with babies/toddlers unless you are confident in reading the conditions. It takes little bit of trained eyes or prior experience in surfing, sea kayaking, sailing and/or scuba diving to develop trained eyes for this kind of wicked current. Knowing how to read the waves is essential for your own safety here! Don't assume the safety by just looking at the colors of the sand or ocean or the number of people hanging out there. The surfers I came across that day were all advanced. I know nothing about surfing, but could easily tell that this beach is not suitable for the beginners.
