After the day hike in Corcovado, we planned to visit King Louis Waterfall in Matapalo, but Felix was taking a nap on his car seat while I was driving. So, we asked our guide for the best beach in the vicinity. He took us to Playa Pan Dulce.
The access road to this beach would require a 4x4 vehicle, as it descends a major dirt road with deep potholes and big rocks. Also, no two cars can pass by in this narrow access road. Be sure to honk before you either descend or ascend... reversing either the major uphill or downhill would be pretty cumbersome to say the least.
On the beach, we spotted lots and lots of Brown Pelicans hanging on the ocean. Some of them were flying around looking for the preys and diving straight down. There were also lots of fishermen with nets catching some fish right off the beach. In addition to the pelicans, we also spotted pairs of scarlet macaws flying low in the sky just 20~30 feet above the water. Inside the jungle, there were capuchin and spider monkeys in sight moving from a tree to another searching for their dinners.
There was also a sign warning the major rip current here. So, use your own discretion if you decide to swim or surf here. It is probably not advisable unless you can read the currents and waves w/ trained eyes.
