Road Trip: NY – Adirondack – Cranberry Lake

Delta/EWR/Alamo/Standard SUV/Volkswagen/2019 Atlas (Scratched at check-out due to the manufacture recall... bummer! Been wanting to drive Atlas for so long!) Delta/EWR/Alamo/Standard SUV/Dodge/2019 Durango Miles Out: 3,950 Miles In: 4,842 Miles driven: 892 Gas-1: 19.305 gallons @ $2.849 = $55.00 Gas-2: 3.017 gallons @ $2.819 = $8.50 Gas-3: 21.98 gallons @ $2.759 = $60.65 MPG: 892 miles / 44.302 = 20.13 Hoppy Tr’Ale – Raquette River Brewing Co. Used to be one of my favorites in Tupper Lake region. This was my third or fourth visit since 2015 or 16 when I started visiting ADK for various outdoorsy activities. Glad to see their taproom being expanded while keeping the outdoor space with fire rings. Also, the food trucks across the street offered high quality meals with generous quantities at affordable prices, which was surely an added bonus. Their brews, however, didn’t impress me as much as they did in my previous visits. Mango Wheat and Orange Blossom Sour stood out of the 8 brews that were available today (7/12/2019). The rest was mediocre at best. Overall, I can only give 3 to 3.5 stars at most. The Health Hub Real Food Market (Farmer’s Market / All-You-Can-Eat Farm-to-Table Pre-Made Eatery): Alan found this place on Google Map while searching for a dinner option on Sat night in/around Tupper Lake region. As soon as we parked our car in the parking lot, three beautiful little girls in 1800’s country dresses (maybe Amish?) curiously came outside to welcome us and brought us inside. Their mother kindly went over each and every dish that were available on the buffet and explained that the veggies are all organic grown in their farm 30 miles to the north and the meats are mostly organic and free-range. Coming to the restaurant starving after four short Fire Tower hikes we completed that day, we hurried to serve ourselves all the goodies that caught our eyes. Oh my oh my! They had the freshest and best tasting salads I could ever hope for! The home-made French dressing complemented the fresh pick from the farm! Briskets, ribs, turkey w gravy, sausage were all delicious! Chili w chicken was also tasty! The after-meal cantaloupe melon and yogurt with raspberry and blueberry sauces were somehow squeezed into my already full tummy. At $15 all-you-can-eat, this place is unbeatable!! The three sisters were also super friendly and (sort of) looked after and played w Felix, which was greatly appreciated while we were busy feasting on delicious savory. I’ll again and again return to this place in the future while I’m in the vicinity. Absolutely loved it... and highly recommend it. As side-notes, the husband (?) played some beautiful folk music with his guitar and this finger-picking instrument from South Africa just for the guests dining there, which complimented the evening. The mother (and the chef) told us that they are planning to open a hostel with bunk beds in the near future. I’ll surely be a guest as soon as they open it up! Can’t wait! Hoppy Tr’Ale – Browns Brewing Co. (4/5) My favorite stop in Troy, NY, almost half way between NYC and ADK. This pub brewery is a serious brewery with a wide range of brews with sophistication. Enjoyed particularly Closet Freak (lager), Extreme Brilliance (Sour IPA), Cherry Razz (Amber Ale) and Oatmeal Stout.
