A sunny day for a stroll through the fields around Keasden. I thought I'd start at the church which is quite a simple building and all the better for that. The most striking feature for me is the small war memorial which is dedicated to all who served in the First War including those who returned as well as those who died. It's good that the community did this to thank everyone who was called up.
I then thought I'd stroll along the river bank. A path is marked on the OS map as a public right of way. All went well for a short while then I came across a locked gate with a 'Private Land Keep Out' notice on it. My GPS, which is accurate to within a few yards told me I was on a right of way. So I climbed over the gate and carried on. Why do farmers do this sort of thing? But the paths around these fields are obviously not well used. Maybe they think they can get away with blocking them off.
But the day was sunny and bright and I wasn't going to let that spoil my day. Great views across to Ingleborough, sheep with their lambs everywhere, spring flowers all in bloom. The only blot in the copybook, hardly any birds. What's happened to them all? Back along the road from Clapham to Keasden rather than going through the fields. I'd had enough of finding unused paths and mentally cursing farmers for their attitude to walkers.
