We wanted to get outside for a walk, but the wife really wanted to go "somewhere different" while I didn't feel like driving very far. We settled for this small loop next to the Wallkill River in Orange County, NY, just north of the border with New Jersey. The Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge has several small preserves along the river, but while it's always nice to see land preserved for wildlife, none of these plots are very large. In truth, we had to do two laps around this small park in order to make this walk almost 4 miles.
The wide and easy to find trail circles an open meadow. There's only one path, there are no hills, no super views, and there's very little shade. Even the river was running very dirty at the time we were there, and I have to say that there was little to recommend this walk. It was a hot and fairly uninteresting option, but it got us outside none-the-less, so I include it as part of my "Ramblr Hiking Diary".
