Began at Coal Pits was trailhead on SR 9, rode up wash until split with Scoggins Wash. trail follows Scoggins until it climbs out of wash onto plateau, where it intersects Chinle Trail. after reaching the trail crossing with Chinle, we rode down Chinle about 20 mins before stopping for lunch. after lunch, returned the way we came and did not finsh the loop at end of CPW trail. weather started to turn cold with in coming storm. good trail, not heavily used, interesting formations and colors, steep climb out of wash and descent, but not extreme, petrified wood pieces, colorful green, erosions in upper wash. water marks in wash show this is not a place to be in a storm. well worth the ride. need to do loop down Chinle back to highway; distance on SR 9 between two trailheads is 4 miles. Riding w/ Jon T, Brooke, Tony, Rick H., etc.
