"unGuide Piccianello" is the first of a series of new sightseeing routes in Matera, developed to integrate presently invisible parts of the city into the traditional tourist path that focuses solely on the Sassi. It aims to offer visitors a more layered and complex understanding of the history of the city and its people, by marking industrial and architectural landmarks and telling their story.
What makes unGuide unusual is that it is based on a double-layered narrative. On one hand, the story of the neighborhood, the history of the flour mills and the housing blocks that surround them. On the other hand, at these sites of authentic history, will appear sites of archeological excavations, telling the visionary tale of the 200 year history of unMonastery, a fictional story woven together with real-life experiences of working in Matera.
